The intelligence agencies of the United States estimate that officials in the Ukrainian government approved the car bomb attack near Moscow in August, in which Daria Dogina, the daughter of a Russian nationalist close to President Vladimir Putin, was killed - this was reported in the New York Times this evening (Wednesday).
According to the report, officials in the United States fear that such actions could expand the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Officials told The New York Times that the United States had no part in the attack, either through intelligence or providing other assistance.
American officials added that the administration was not informed in advance about the operation, and he would have opposed it if they had consulted him ahead of time.
According to the same sources, Washington reprimanded Kiev for the assassination afterwards.
The previously unreported secret assessment of Ukrainian involvement was shared with the administration last week.
Ukraine immediately denied having a hand in the assassination, and officials in Kiev repeated those denials when asked about the US intelligence assessment.
