The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Muhammad Seif El-Din, in the presence of the Deputy Country Director of the World Food Program, Ross Simis, launched today a school feeding project to distribute 25,000 meals to social welfare institutes and schools in Damascus countryside.
The project sponsored by the Social Welfare Association “Excellence in Orphan Sponsorship” in cooperation with the World Food Program aims to provide rural schools with food in areas where school dropouts have increased, as the project will start gradually, starting with 6,000 meals as a first stage.
The minister pointed out the importance of networking with all concerned parties to make the project a success, leading to its expansion to include other governorates.
In turn, Irfan Drakl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Social Welfare Association, stated that the project aims to reach the distribution of 25,000 meals on a daily basis to the schools of the countryside of Damascus in principle, to support the nutritional value of children suffering from nutritional deficiencies, explaining that the project is based on studying the meals and calories necessary for the child.
