Iranian musicians met today with students of the Arabic music department at the Higher Institute of Music, to present their experiences and knowledge, within a workshop held on the sidelines of the Iranian Cultural Week in Syria, organized by the Directorate of Intangible Heritage in the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Chancellery in Damascus, the Higher Institute of Music and the Syrian Secretariat for development.
The musicians Ihsan Abayi, the Tar player, the Tanbak player, Mehdi Rankin violin, Baqir Zainali, the Kamanja player, the oud player Mo'tamed Samani, and the singer Mohsen Hosseini presented an explanation of their musical instruments, the way they are played and what distinguishes them, reviewing the similarities and differences between music and singing. In Syria and Iran, in addition to performing some musical and lyrical pieces.
The musician Ihsan Abaiy confirmed in a statement to SANA that the cultural and musical relations between Iran and Syria have deep historical roots, noting that during the meeting with the Syrian students he introduced them to Iranian music, and gave them a glimpse of the instruments, and played some musical pieces to find out the differences between Syrian and Iranian music, We wish this constructive cooperation to continue.
In turn, the Dean of the Higher Institute of Music, Maestro Adnan Fathallah, pointed out that these meetings enrich the students’ experiences, to learn about different musical styles and new musical instruments, and to create an effective musical communication language, stressing the need to continue these fruitful meetings, and to create an interactive musical dialogue that would broaden horizons Musical sense of students.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the Intangible Heritage Directorate at the Ministry of Culture, Engineer Rola Aqili, and Rasha Barhoum, from the Living Heritage Program at the Syrian Trust for Development, and they talked about the joint work between Syria and Iran, to include the file “making and playing the lute” on the Representative List of Human Cultural Heritage at UNESCO, which includes The results are due to be released at the end of this year.
