Cheeky Crow: Ruby has wormed its way into children's hearts.

Arne Winkler, who has already attempted to release the bird into the wild, hopes that the crow will become independent when it is no longer fed.

Some time ago, the man from Ehlen successfully trained a swan that became pushy during dog training.

Children love him, adults are worried: the tame crow Rubin causes a stir in Habichtswald.

The children want to help the bird - meanwhile the municipality takes action.

Habichtswald-Ehlen – Some love Ruby, others consider him a problem crow: The tame bird lives in Ehlen and shows little fear of people.

On the contrary, Rubin, as the children of the community called him, shows up at the pizzeria, at the supermarket, in the kindergarten and begs for food, reports hna.de.

Because there were calls to catch or even shoot the bird, the children have now started a petition to save Rubin.

Michel, Anna and Sara handed these in along with other children at the recent community representative meeting.

Tame Crow in Hawkswood: Ruby begs for food

Crow Ruby loves people, that's for sure.

For days, the bird has been flying to supermarkets, restaurants, kindergartens, schools and private gardens in Ehlen to make contact there.

"He was probably nursed up by humans as a young bird," says the Ehlen dog trainer Arne Winkler, who had contacted Rubin earlier.

The story started last week when he received a call for help from Kassel-Harleshausen.

Rubin had noticed there because he had been insistently begging for food.

Winkler customers asked him for help because he is not only good with dogs, but has also trained birds.

Arne Winkler drove there and decided to start an attempt to reintroduce them into the wild.

Rubin was willing to be caught.

"It wasn't clear whether the bird was really mis-stamped," says Winkler.

He had seen flocks of crows in the tall grass and released the crows there into freedom.

Hoping she will join the other birds.

Hawkswood: Crow Ruby prefers to stay with humans

Rubin obviously didn't want to do that.

It was in Ehlen of all places that he showed up the next day and stayed - to this day.

There was excitement when the crow also landed in the kindergarten playground and the children fed the bird.

This caused injustice, because he came dangerously close to the children's hands when snatching bread.

While some love ruby, others have since considered him a problem crow, and calls have been made to shoot the animal, or at least cage it.

Since then, the children have been very concerned about Rubin and submitted a list of signatures under the motto "Freedom for Rubin" at the most recent Habichtswalde community representative meeting.

Habichtswald: Tame crow Rubin should be kept away from the daycare center

"Of course, the child's well-being comes first," says Habichtswald Mayor Dr.

Daniel Faßhauer, but he still wants to reassure the children: "No feather will bend Rubin".

One is in close contact with the local nature conservation association and is now trying to keep the bird at a distance with various measures.

He should no longer be fed and should be kept away from the daycare center with acoustic signals.

Whether this will succeed is an open question.

Maybe Krahe Rubin can still be trained by Arne Winkler in the end.

In any case, it worked out with a swan, who was just as pushy and regularly disturbed the dog training session in Ehlen at the time.

"In the end he knew that he had to stay on the pond during the practice session," remembers Winkler.

Unfortunately, this story didn't have a happy ending.

When the pond froze over in winter, the fox fetched it.
