The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi draws its 200 megapixel smartphone

2022-10-05T09:03:04.988Z

Like Motorola in early September, Xiaomi presented this Tuesday, October 4, a smartphone with a 200 MP sensor: the Xiaomi 12T Pro.

It was in Munich, at BMW Welt, home of the famous German automobile brand, that Xiaomi announced its new smartphone for the end of 2022 on Tuesday: the 12T Pro.

The device will be available from October 13.

The Chinese manufacturer proudly announces it: this phone, unveiled with a myriad of other products, ranging pell-mell from the robot vacuum cleaner to QLED televisions, via a kibble dispenser (!), offers "a high-end experience" .

All at 799 euros in France.

More than its design, altogether classic, and rather massive (205 g for 163 mm in height and 8.6 in thickness), it is its main 200 megapixel photo sensor that challenges.

An unusual module on the market, supposed to guarantee "an exceptional photographic experience", according to Xiaomi.

Who, moreover, had his hair cut on the post in the race for the biggest sensor.

pixel orgy

At the beginning of September, from Milan (Italy), it was indeed its competitor Motorola who first announced a phone equipped with this famous Samsung photo module: the Edge 30 Ultra.

Concretely, this orgy of pixels must guarantee a large level of detail.

And allows, for example, to have the shots developed in large format.

During the presentation, Xiaomi particularly insisted on its innovation called ProCut.

Clearly, a 200 MP snapshot generates five others, by zooming in more or less in the image, in an intelligent way.

Another featured feature is a fast autofocus designed to track moving subjects.

The Chinese, of course, is not stingy with promises and ensures that its latest flagship “offers images of great clarity and sharp night shots”.

Alongside this 200 MP behemoth, there are two more modest photo sensors: an 8MP ultra wide-angle and a 2 MP macro camera.

It is on this duo that Xiaomi seems to have made a compromise.

Because the big brother of the 12T Pro, the 12 Pro, released at the start of the year, offers two secondary 50 MP sensors.

Two much more modest photo sensors, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle and a 2MP macro camera, accompany the main one.

In addition to this rather ambitious photo score, the 12T Pro features Qualcomm's latest premium processor: the Snapdragon 8 + Gen 1, coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

What, a priori, to offer optimal fluidity for common tasks and greedy 3D games.

The Chinese pointed to the phone's ability to dissipate heat.

Global ambitions

Note also its ultra-fast charging: Xiaomi swears that only 19 minutes are enough to recharge the 5000 mAh battery to 100%.

A result substantially similar to that of the 11T Pro released last year.

And, the 120W charging block is included.

A nice gift when you know that some major competitors, such as Apple, Samsung and Google force the consumer to put their hands in their pockets.

On the screen side, the 12T Pro has a rich Amoled panel with 68 billion colors - just that - with a resolution of 1220p (more than full HD, therefore) and a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz adaptive.

All these elements confirm the ambition of the world's third-largest manufacturer: to grab market share in the lucrative and prestigious high-end segment, while cultivating its innovative brand image, at the forefront of the latest trends.

Xiaomi also wanted to recall it from the start of its Munich conference: the budget allocated to research and development (R&D) since 2017 has increased by an average of 43% each year.

And the brand does not intend to stop there: it recently declared that it should invest more than 100 billion yuan (14.92 billion dollars), still in R&D, over the next five years.

With the ambition of “exploring new technologies”.

It's certain: you haven't finished hearing about Xiaomi.
