The city continues to fight against the two sports betting offices operating in the old town without a permit.

Since 2019 they have been trying to put a stop to the betting caves and have come a small step closer to this with the approval decision for a development plan.

Schongau

– The “Historic Old Town” development plan is now being drafted.

The building committee made the decision at its most recent meeting.

Background: One urgently wants to take action against the two illegal betting shops on Christophstraße in the old town of Schongau.

Proceedings are underway, the state of affairs that violates building law must be clarified, confirms city master builder Sebastian Dietrich at the request of the Schongauer Nachrichten.

The owners' aim is to obtain approval, but the city considers both sports betting offices to be "unapproved and unapproved".

according to Dietrich.

Regardless of how the government of Upper Bavaria decides, the city wants to exclude the two acceptance points at another level, namely at the level of the development plans.

To this end, it had already been decided in December 2019 to draw up the development plan "Pleasure facilities in the historic old town" (we reported).

In July 2020, in order to get a stronger handle, the decision to set up the building was changed to "Development plan for the historic old town".

In addition, a change ban had been imposed on the entire area.

Clear rules about what is not desired in the old town

The aim and purpose of the planning is to exclude businesses that offer sexual services, places of entertainment, retail stores with erotic articles and betting shops in the old town area.

"It's also about noise pollution, sometimes garish advertising and the distortion of the rental price," Dietrich explained in the building committee.

The aim is to prevent high-quality use from being driven out of the old town area.

"These are all good reasons to exclude that in the old town area." The scope of the future development plan covers almost the entire old town area, except for those areas where there is already a legally binding development plan or will soon be there.

The Weilheim-Schongau district office confirms that the two betting shops have not yet been approved under the new State Treaty on Gambling.

In this case, however, the government of Upper Bavaria is responsible.

There they only say that the two license applications for the two betting agencies in Christophstraße are currently being examined.

Even when asked by the Schongauer Nachrichten, there is no more information, neither since when the applications have been running, nor how long the process will take approximately.

"We ask for your understanding that we cannot yet make any statements about the result of the test," says Wolfgang Rupp, spokesman for the government of Upper Bavaria.

Unfortunately for the city of Schongau, such tests would currently take a very long time, comments the city master builder.

Meanwhile, bets continue to be accepted on Christophstrasse.
