The list of the best bars in the world in 2022 is here and there are several from Latin America

London and New York, step aside.

There's a new cosmopolitan cocktail capital: Barcelona is home to Paradiso, the bar recently crowned the best in the world.

For the first time since the World's 50 Best Bars list was created in 2009, a bar from outside of New York or London took first place.

Paradiso, by owners Giacomo Giannotti and Margarita Sader, is a Mediterranean-style speakeasy, entered through the freezer door of Pastrami Bar in Barcelona's trendy Born neighborhood.

The bar rose from number 3 in 2021.

"It's a great honor to win and a great responsibility. We will work hard to live up to being the best and uphold our principles. Our cocktails are about sparking creativity," Giannotti told 50 Best on Tuesday night.

"But it all comes down to hard work. The harder you work, the more you discover and the more creative you can be. We'll celebrate and then we'll go back to the bar to do what we do."

The winners of the 50 Best were announced this Tuesday night in Barcelona, ​​the first time the ceremony has been held outside of London.

The vibrant Catalan city is home to three of the top 10 bars in the 2022 list. Sips has been the bar that has risen the most this year, rising from 37th in 2021 to 3rd this year.

Two Schmucks stood at #7.

Four bars from Spain entered the top 50: Madrid's Salmon Guru was number 15.

Italy has also had a big presence on the list of the 50 best bars of 2022, with bars in Rome, Florence, Milan and Naples.

Newcomer L'Antiquario Napoli landed at number 46, putting the southern city of Naples in the top 50 for the first time.

Florence also appears for the first time on the list, as does the capital of Portugal, Lisbon.

Although London was knocked out of the top spot, the city remains one of the world's top cocktail destinations.

Five London bars make the list, including The Connaught Bar, which has dropped from number 1 for two years running and is now number 8.

London's Tayēr + Elementary, described as "one of the most original bars on the planet" by awards show host Mark Sansom, has retained its No. 2 spot since 2021.

Europe dominated with more top bars than any other region.

The list is the result of the votes of 650 bartenders and bar owners, drink writers and cocktail experts.

10. Alchemical, Cartagena.

Alchemical, the only bar in Colombia in the top 50, has won the title of best bar in South America.

New York rebounded from a lackluster performance in 2021, to become the city with the most bars on the 2022 list. New York is home to six bars in the top 50, including Double Chicken Please at No. 6 and Katana Kitten at No. 9.

Double Chicken Please won Best New Entry for its strong debut.

Sansom, who is the content director for The World's 50 Best Bars, told CNN Travel that the bar has "almost Michelin-grade cuisine," an example of the growing emphasis on food in the world's top bars.

In Singapore, No. 33 Manhattan also does "very, very elevated bar food," Sansom said.

Mexico City is another of the North American cocktail capitals, with four bars in the top 50, including number 4, Licorería Limantour, winner of the award for best bar in North America.

Cartagena's Alchemist is the best bar in South America, at number 10. There are three bars from Buenos Aires on the list, as well as one from Lima.

In Asia, Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong have two bars in the top 50.

At number 12, Singapore's Jigger & Pony won the award for best bar in Asia.

Dubai had three bars in the top 50, including number 38, Zuma, winner of the Best Bar in the Middle East and Africa award for the third consecutive year.

In India, the New Delhi Sidecar climbed 21 places to No. 26.

The best bar in Australasia is Maybe Sammy, in Sydney, at number 29.
