Erding – The large district town of Erding, as the responsible approval authority, is extremely critical of important points in the planned conversion and new construction of the Widnmann Palais in the Langenzeile.

Contrary to what the press texts suggested, “nothing is certain yet,” emphasizes Lord Mayor Max Gotz.

District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer is planning to locate the district administrator's office in the historic building in the center of the city.

Among other things, two wings of the building in the east and north are to be demolished and rebuilt.

The city administration and the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments have reservations about the district's plans to roof the inner courtyard.

According to a statement by the state office, a roof represents a "technoid solution that damages the palace".

Gotz advocates a courtyard designed as a garden: “All urban planning concepts for Erding envisage green inner courtyards.

The district has a role model function in this prominent position.” Nevertheless, he does not want to close himself off to a “reasonable solution” with regard to a roof, emphasizes the mayor.

So far, however, too few technical details are available, and according to previous plans, the eave heights of the buildings surrounding the courtyard are too different to be able to erect a roof there.

As Gotz further explains in this context, "it is of central importance to keep the inner courtyard open to pedestrian traffic".

The inner courtyard, with Roßmayrgasse and the pedestrian bridges over the Sempt, represents the pedestrian connection to Alois-Schießl-Platz. This is where the town hall, savings bank headquarters and district office are located.

"There is no faster way to get to the city center," said the mayor.

The Widnmann Palace was built in 1781/82 in the early classicist style and was the seat of the Erding District Office until the early 1980s.
