"Men in primary school teaching" - because that has a surplus of women.

Teachers are also needed as male role models.

Or maybe not?

Many little girls dream of becoming a teacher.

The boys, on the other hand, would rather be firefighters or police officers.

These are mostly common role clichés.

Of course, preferences and dreams change with age.

Nevertheless, it is striking that a particularly large number of women are drawn to the teaching profession, especially primary school teaching.

This is also the result of a report by the State Statistical Office in Stuttgart.

Too many female primary school teachers: are boys softening?

According to this, 74 percent and thus three-quarters of the 94,965 teachers who taught at public schools in the school year 2019/2020 should be women in Baden-Württemberg.

This puts the proportion of men at just 26 percent.

It has been shown that the latter mainly teach at grammar schools and comprehensive schools.

The number of women, on the other hand, is said to be significantly higher in elementary and secondary schools and in special educational institutions.

But does this pose a problem for the pedagogical development of children, predominantly male students?

A hot discussion ensued about it.

A discussion broke out about this, which culminated in a handout called “Men ins Grundschulamt” from the Education and Science Union (GEW).

It examines “how gender diversity can be achieved in elementary school faculties”.

Why is it needed?

Because the "increasing feminization of schools" ensures that male students feel less and less addressed.

Accordingly, there is no longer a male role model for them to emulate.

Too many female teachers in elementary schools: "Feminization" harms students?

“Women, on the other hand, could not work with male impulses in an appreciative and appreciative manner due to their experience and their femininity and could not change this within the framework of training and further education.

Rather, they are strange to boys

opposite and failed with their educational attempts

therefore inevitable,” says the handout and underlines the assumption that is made in various specialist literature.

Nevertheless, it is difficult to inspire men to become primary school teachers, on the one hand because it is considered gender-atypical and secondly because of the usually low pay.

But this would teach children that "men tend to be responsible for assigning status and imparting the knowledge necessary for acquiring status, while women tend to be responsible for organizing everyday life and for education." That means that the children are already in elementary school Clichés and role models learn how a woman or a man should behave or what job profiles they have to take.

Too many female teachers at primary schools: teachers often stricter

Nevertheless, studies also indicate that it is not so important for boys who they are taught by.

Accordingly, in a Dortmund boy study in which 1,635 boys between the ages of twelve and 19 were interviewed, more than half stated that they did not care about gender.

What is exciting, however, is that another study at a grammar school again points to a certain understanding of roles among male students.

Here, the majority of boys are said to prefer male teachers for subjects with male connotations - these usually include natural sciences or physical education - and female teachers for subjects with female connotations.

But: 77.7 percent of the boys also stated that they were treated, reprimanded and punished more severely than girls.

And this is especially the case for male teachers.

For this reason, however, the final question is whether teachers actually have a better understanding of boys' behavior and needs.
