Turn off the water heater, really? What a Linky meter can and cannot do

Deployed since 2016, the new generation electricity meter generates its share of fantasies about its capacities and its remote control.


The Linky counter leaves no one indifferent and is a source of regular controversy - and sometimes lawsuits - from its opponents.

Another controversy emerged after the publication of a ministerial decree which authorizes public electricity network managers to switch the supply of certain energy-intensive devices, mainly hot water tanks, to less busy time slots such as the night.

This procedure will be initiated by Enedis, via its Linky meters, at the request of RTE and the public authorities.

The yellow counters also feed many fantasies.
