Update from October 4, 10:55 p.m .:

According to President Volodymyr Selenskyj, dozens of towns have been liberated from Russian occupation in the past few days as the Ukrainian army advanced.

There is good news, said Zelenskyj in a video message distributed in Kyiv on Tuesday evening.

"The Ukrainian army is advancing fairly quickly and powerfully in the current defense operation in the south of our country." Villages in the Kherson, Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions have been brought back under Ukrainian control.

In particular, in the Cherson region in the south, localities were liberated.

The Ukrainian armed forces spoke of a total of eight settlements in the evening.

“Our soldiers don't stop.

And it's only a matter of time before we expel the invaders from our country," said Zelenskyy.

Trouble with Russian recruitment: Soldiers have been waiting on the field for weeks to be deployed

Update from October 4th, 7.40 p.m .:

Difficulties in the Russian army are repeatedly reported.

Many saw Putin's partial mobilization as a sign of weakness.

And apparently not everything is going smoothly with recruitment either.

A video on

ntv

, which a recruit is said to have filmed, now apparently shows an organizational failure.

“They unloaded us in an open field.

The devil knows what we're supposed to do here," the man translated.

He films a field where recruits are apparently standing together at fireplaces.

The man describes that some of the soldiers have been waiting for weeks.

They are said to come from the city of Norilsk.

"They sit around the campfire, grill sausages, chill, sleep.

And everything outdoors.

That's our situation," says the filmmaker.

The recordings cannot be checked independently.

Ukraine advance: "General withdrawal" by Russia reported near Kherson

Update from October 4, 7:12 p.m .:

Ukraine is apparently moving further in the south of the country.

Already in the afternoon Kyiv had reported the capture of five towns.

Among them the long-fought village of Dawydiv Brid.

For two months there was a fight for the place.

Russian blogger Igor Girkin has now confirmed via Telegram that Russian troops have withdrawn from here and from several other larger villages in the region to avoid being encircled by the Ukrainian army.

"The retreat continues," he wrote.

In contrast, the Russian war blog Rybar, which is loyal to Putin, reports a “general withdrawal” by Russia in the north of Kherson.

This was pointed out by Reuters correspondent Felix Light.

Light also points out that Russia had previously held these positions since March and now apparently fears encirclement now that Ukraine has advanced further.

Rybar writes via Telegram that Russia wants to regroup.

It is currently the only option because the position cannot be maintained and this is the only way to protect personnel and equipment.

Update from October 4, 6:38 p.m

.: Images of long traffic jams at Russian borders and reports of fully booked one-way flights from Russia recently went around the world.

Apparently, many young Russians are trying to avoid being recruited into Putin's army by fleeing.

Now there are figures on this for the first time: According to Forbes Russia, almost 700,000 people have left Russia since the start of mobilization.

This is reported by the

Kyiv Independent.

Forbes therefore relies on information from sources in Putin's administrative environment.

Putin only announced the partial mobilization on September 21.

For comparison: in early September, Russia reported that 419,000 people had left Russia since January 1.

Update from October 4, 5:18 p.m .:

After the annexation of four areas in eastern Ukraine, which was classified as illegal under international law, Russia expects a higher grain harvest.

“Considering the farmland there, I think Russia would stockpile at least an additional five million tons of grain.

This should also be the case with other crops," said Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev on Tuesday, according to the state agency TASS.

Patrushev expects 150 million tons of grain this year - 100 million tons of it wheat.

That would be a record.

Russia is considered one of the most important exporters worldwide - just like Ukraine.

According to earlier data, Russia intends to deliver up to 30 million tons of grain for foreign markets in the second half of the year.

The United Nations fears food shortages and hunger in poor parts of the world if Ukraine loses as a major grain supplier as a result of the war.

Ukraine-News: Russian troops allegedly on 'general withdrawal'

Update from October 4, 3:38 p.m .:

Only last Friday did Putin annex the Cherson region to Russia in violation of international law – now the Russian troops are said to be withdrawing from parts of the area they have occupied since March.

According to the pro-Russian war blog Rybar, a “general retreat” of Russian troops is underway in northern Kherson, where the Ukrainian army is advancing.

Because of the successful counter-offensives by the Ukrainian armed forces and the threat of encirclement by Russian troops, Moscow has decided to withdraw its soldiers to a new line of defense further south, according to a Telegram post on the blog.

This is to avoid further deaths and preserve equipment.

Ukraine-News: Ukrainian army apparently liberates more towns - videos show relieved soldiers

Update from October 4, 3:03 p.m .:

In counterattacks in southern Ukraine, the Ukrainian army says it has liberated other towns from Putin’s troops.

The head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, wrote to the Telegram news service about five places that had been recaptured.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published on Twitter a video of relieved soldiers in the long-contested village of Davydiv Brid in the Kherson region, which has now apparently been liberated.

Similar videos from the villages of Velyka Oleksandrivka and Starossillya are circulating on social networks.

In addition, Ukrainian units are said to have moved into Dudchany on the Dnipro River.

Official confirmations are not yet available.

Ukraine News: According to its own statements, Russia has already recruited 200,000 reservists

Update from October 4, 1:47 p.m .:

Russia has already moved more than 200,000 people within two weeks as part of its partial mobilization.

This was announced by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

"The training takes place on 80 training sites and in six training centers," he said, according to his ministry.

Shoigu said recruits are provided with necessary clothing and equipment and are briefed.

Apparently, many volunteers reported.

Shoigu didn't give any numbers.

Nobody should be rejected "unless there are serious reasons".

According to the official statement, Putin wants to draft in around 300,000 reservists in order to hold the occupied territories after the Russian army was defeated in Ukraine.

Ukraine on the march: Even Putin's elite troops have to flee - Putin's order indicates huge deficits

First report:

Lyman/Kherson - The Ukrainian army can record further successes in the Ukraine war: In the south they freed further areas from Russian occupation.

And east of the already liberated city of Lyman, the Ukrainians were able to further push back Putin's troops.

This is what the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes in its latest analysis.

Apparently, even Vladimir Putin's elite troops were powerless against the Ukrainian advance, writes the US think tank.

Parts of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division withdrew in the Lyman area.

The 76th Airborne Division, on the other hand, is said to have been repelled in the Kherson Oblast.

According to the ISW, both are units that are regarded as the first league in the Russian army.

"Their apparent failure to defend territory against the Ukrainian offensive" is further evidence that Russia's military is getting weaker and weaker the longer the Ukraine war goes on.

Ukraine News: According to intelligence information, Russia's army is facing major problems

The British secret service also has information that Russia is no longer able to adequately equip and train its recruits.

This emerges from the latest report from the British Ministry of Defence.

According to a written order, Putin apparently postponed the entry into service of 120,000 new conscripts in Russia.

This is an indication that Russia is currently not able to equip and train a large number of personnel.

"The challenges of housing, training, equipping and deploying mobilized and conscripted personnel are significant," the statement said.

There are also significant shortcomings in Russian military administration and logistics, which makes efforts even more difficult.

A video shows how big the deficits in the equipment of the soldiers are - rusty rifles and plastic bags can be seen.

According to Russian law, the new conscripts, who are not scheduled to start their service until November 1, may not be deployed outside of Russia.

They are to be distinguished from the 300,000 reservists that Putin wants to send to the front as part of his partial mobilization in the Ukraine war.
