Twenty-two people were killed, including 16 women, when two boats sank in Greek waters, near the islands of Lesbos and Kythira.
And the Associated Press quoted the coast guard on the island of Lesbos, eastern Greece, as saying today: that its forces found the bodies of 16 African women, in addition to the bodies of a man and a child, after a boat carrying 40 people sank near the island.
Coast Guard spokesman Nikos Kokkalas said 10 women were rescued, while 15 others are still missing.
Kocalas pointed out that in a similar sinking incident hundreds of kilometers to the southwest, a dhow collided with rocks off the island of Keithira, causing it to sank.
According to officials, 80 people have been rescued, while the search continues for 11 people who are still missing.
The bodies were seen floating in the wreckage of the two boats off the islands, and residents and rescuers made great efforts to pull the migrants to land, as winds at the scene of the accidents reached 70 kilometers per hour, hampering rescue efforts.
