30 years associated with Balatonkenese

A delegation from Tutzinger was in the Hungarian partner community Balatonkenese - there was an anniversary to celebrate.

– Meeting the people from the Hungarian twin town of Balatonkenese in person again: Some Tutzing residents had been looking forward to this for a very long time.

After the compulsory Corona break, they fulfilled their wish last weekend.

The occasion was the 30th anniversary of international friendship, as Stefanie von Winning reports.

She is the chair of the Friends of Tutzing-Bagnères-Balatonkenese.

Bagnères de Bigorre is the name of the other twin town at the foot of the Pyrenees in France.

Under the direction of mayor Marlene Greinwald, eleven Tutzing residents, including local councilor Flora Weichmann, made their way to the small town on Lake Balaton by train.

According to von Winning, the Hungarians welcomed the delegation "exuberantly" at a small champagne reception.

All were accommodated with host families, some of whom have known each other since the company was founded.

The hosts had prepared an extensive program - including a visit to the baroque monastery complex in Zirc and a tour of Balatonkenese.

At the latter, the participants inaugurated the Tutzinger gift: a park bench that refers to the 30th anniversary.

She is now standing in front of the town hall of the city, which is a good hour's drive south-west of Budapest.

Return visit in the coming year

There was a banquet at the partnership's birthday celebration, at which Greinwald emphasized the importance of the connection: "Especially in times like these, it is important to live international understanding and maintain contact with people." In the presence of three former Hungarian mayors, she cut her counterpart János Jurcsó a big birthday cake.

The days ended happily in the cellar of the Order of the Wine Knights – with a wine tasting, of course.

Former mayor and wine knight Lajos Kürthy gave everyone a self-pressed wine.

The Chair of the Friends of Winning thanked the hosts for the warm welcome and invited them to a return visit to Tutzing in two years' time.

Next year the Tutzingers want to go to Bagnères de Bigorre in France.
