An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit northwest Japan today, but no casualties or damage were reported.
The US Geological Survey stated that the quake was at a depth of 177.3 km, while the epicenter of the quake was monitored at 126,912 degrees east and 27,620 degrees north.
A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Japanese city of Mutsu earlier this October.
Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region where a large number of earthquakes and volcanoes are active that stretches across Southeast Asia and across the Pacific Basin.
