The driver of a stolen Mazda CX5 raced away from civilian investigators on the A57 - and built an accident near Sonsbeck.

Nevertheless, he managed to escape.

Sonsbeck – On Wednesday evening, October 5th, the driver of a stolen Mazda CX5 fled from plainclothes police investigators.

He raced over the A57 towards Cologne – at the Sonsbeck junction (Wesel district) he lost control and collided with a tree, reports 24RHEIN.

He then continued his escape on foot – and has not yet been found.

“The Mazda coming from the Netherlands caught the eye of the civilian patrol in the area of ​​the Goch border crossing.

When checking the installed license plates, it turned out that they were issued on a truck trailer," reports the Düsseldorf police.

A task force then overtook the suspicious vehicle and gave a stop signal for a traffic check shortly before the Uedem junction.

At first, the driver of the Mazda seemed to want to follow the police officers, but then he accelerated sharply and sped away.

The civilian investigators took up the pursuit.

At the Sonsbeck junction, the Mazda driver pretended to want to leave the autobahn.

At the last moment he suddenly tried to get back on the main lane.

"During the maneuver, he lost control of his car, drove over the green area of ​​​​the triangle of vision of the junction and collided with a tree there," the police continued.

However, the escape did not end after the accident.

Because the man continued on foot in the direction of an adjacent wooded area.

However, the police apparently lost his trail.

"The search for the fugitive, including with a police helicopter, was negative.

According to the current state of investigation, the Mazda was stolen in the Netherlands.

The investigation is ongoing," police said.
