The Bavarian monument atlas for Starnberg and the districts shows more than 150 architectural monuments and almost 60 ground monuments.
city councilor dr
Thorsten Schüler has now taken the trouble to put them all together in one app.
Starnberg – It is about three kilometers as the crow flies from the villa rustica in the Leutstettener Moos to the Bayerischer Hof at the station square.
On the smartphone, on the other hand, it's just a swipe between the two most famous monuments in Starnberg.
And all of the other almost 220 architectural and archaeological monuments in the city can now be reached with a swipe of the finger on the smartphone screen.
"Monuments on site", UWG City Councilor Dr.
Thorsten Schüler (56) called his app, with which everyone can find out about the Starnberg monuments.
The information itself comes from the Bavarian monument atlas and is easy to find on the Internet.
"But who has their computer or laptop with them when they are standing in front of an interesting building?" says Schüler.
Or who wants to look for the right website first, enlarge the font and so on?
At first he thought of a flyer to give interested citizens the information in handbag format.
But then he decided to use the interactive platform for mobile devices.
And so the app "On-site monuments" is available for download free of charge in the respective app stores for Apple devices.
"Depending on the respective location, the building and archaeological monuments in the area are displayed on a map with a brief description," explains the 56-year-old the principle.
"If desired, a route for pedestrians or cars can also be calculated."
The work was not particularly complex, says Schüler
The work was not particularly time-consuming, says Schüler, it was more a matter of hard work.
The city council deliberately chose not to take photos.
"Then nobody would need to go there anymore," he explains.
And that would really be a shame given the variety of the more than 150 architectural monuments and the almost 60 archaeological monuments.
The latter are often burial mounds from prehistoric times, which can usually only be recognized with a certain amount of imagination.
The monuments, on the other hand, illustrate the development of the comparatively young city of Starnberg, for example with the numerous stately villas along Maximilianstrasse or Possenhofener Strasse.
"I was surprised myself how many monuments there are in Starnberg," says Schüler,
who, as the city council's transport officer, tends to be less concerned with cultural issues in day-to-day political business.
He was particularly pleased that these included small buildings and not just representative properties.
And so the list ranges from A for Achheimstrasse to W for Wittelsbacherstrasse.
The platform is also open to other interested parties, says Schüler.
He would be happy if committed citizens elsewhere registered the monuments there.
"It has potential for the entire district," he says with certainty.
