The tourist, "disturbed" according to the Vatican, threw to the ground two 2,000-year-old Roman busts that were on display in the galleries of the Vatican Museums.

Some would have simply returned a letter or proclaimed their disappointment on social networks.

Others react more violently to a refusal.

Of course, this is not just any rejection.

Obviously outraged at not having been able to obtain an interview with the pope, an American tourist took revenge yesterday morning on two statues in the Chiaramonti museum in the Vatican.

The scene takes place in the heart of the papal city.

In part of the Musei Vaticani complex, founded in 1806 and named after Pope Pius VII.

The man threw himself on two Roman busts, knocking them to the ground.

Erik Walters, a tourist guide present on the spot and witnesses of this

"barbaric act"

did not hesitate to immortalize the moment with his phone.

In the photo immediately shared on his Instagram account, we can see the two busts broken on the ground.

The man in the blue shirt pointed at by the security guard would be the criminal, according to the author of the image.

If on the picture, the two statues look seriously damaged, the museum's restoration team assures that the damage to the 2000-year-old busts

"is not significant".

For now, it is impossible to know how the American managed to throw the two marble sculptures on the ground.

These are supposed to be sealed on the podium.

After his act, the tourist would have tried to flee.

Quickly arrested by the museum's security guards, the man was handed over to the Vatican gendarmerie.

The press service of the institution meanwhile declared that it

“is the work of a deranged person”

.
