The Minister of the Presidency affirms that he does not even want to imagine the resignation of Carlos Lesmes, president of the governing body of the judges

The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has demanded this Thursday an urgent meeting with the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to once again address the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), which has been in office for almost four years because its renewal needs the agreement of PSOE and PP and this last party has been chaining successive demands that prevent negotiation.

“I ask Mr. Feijóo to change the line of the PP a little, because he has the same one that Mr. [Pablo] Casado had, that we sit down as soon as possible, that we start talking about the renewal of the Council, because it is essential, because it is already having reputational damage for Spain outside our borders”, Bolaños claimed in an interview on Cadena Ser. With regard to the threat of resignation made by the president of the CGPJ and the Supreme Court,

A month ago, at the start of the judicial course, Lesmes summoned the political leaders to come to an urgent agreement, stated that the situation is "unsustainable" and threatened to resign if the Judiciary was not renewed in the following weeks.

Last Friday, after a meeting with the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, the president of the governing body of the judges expressed his confidence that the European representative would give "a boost" to the renewal and was waiting for what It will happen in the next few days.

The Minister of the Presidency has recognized this Thursday that he has "no news", but he has been open and has extended his hand to the PP.

“This situation is unsustainable.

It cannot be that a power of the State, such as the Judiciary, is blocked for more than 1,400 days.

Can not be",

The paralysis has extended to the negotiation to appoint the two magistrates of the Constitutional Court that corresponds to elect the General Council of the Judiciary.

The talks between the conservative and progressive bloc have already lasted a month, but the conservatives have not yet presented their candidates and the progressive sector is now looking for "alternative paths".

They are already out of time.

The last reform of the Organic Law of the Judiciary (LOPJ) established September 13 as the deadline for the CGPJ to renew the Constitutional.

Minister Bolaños has asked that an attempt be made to give "tranquility", "calm" and "serenity" to the Council.

“You have to let them work, to dialogue.

My call is for them to work to comply with the law as soon as possible.

It's been quite a few days, but even so I insist: let's give them peace of mind, "he said.

Exhumations of Queipo de Llano and Primo de Rivera

The Minister of the Presidency has granted this interview one day after the Senate definitively approved the Democratic Memory Law.

During the conversation, he confirmed that with this new norm already in force, "actions will begin" to exhume the remains of General Gonzalo Queipo de Llano, buried in the Basilica de la Macarena (Seville), and José Antonio Primo de Rivera, in the main altar of the Valley of the Fallen.

Bolaños, who has not set a specific date for this operation, has highlighted that the new law establishes that they cannot be "in a prominent place."

"Obviously, they will be given a dignified burial where the relatives decide, but they cannot be in any prominent place because it is a way of honoring the protagonists of the dictatorship," he added.

Bolaños has underlined the importance of the Democratic Memory Law for the victims.

“It is a law that finally turns the page on the darkest decades of our country's recent history, which was the civil war and the dictatorship, and embraces the best of our recent history: it embraces the Transition, which it recognizes as the fundamental pillar of our democracy and our Constitution;

embraces the Amnesty Law, which was also essential”, he added, emphasizing that this law is “perfectly comparable” with those of other European countries that have suffered dictatorships.

“This law is, above all, of the victims.

We want to accompany them and put them at the center”, he said.

"The #LeyDeMemoriaDemocrática makes our democracy more dignified, embraces the best of our recent history: the Transition, the Amnesty Law and the Constitution. It is a law, above all, of the victims."
