The parking lot on the Point is packed, especially in the summer.

Around 130 cars can be accommodated here on the more or less makeshift site.

The city council has now decided on digital parking surveillance.

Tegernsee

- As early as 2014, the city council dealt intensively with a redesign and also made decisions, but the plans are still in the drawer.

The plans for a new building for the orthopedic clinic, which is also located on the Point, got in the way.

Since a city council decision in March, a working group headed by CSU city councilor Rudolf Gritsch has been working on an overall package for Point.

Irrespective of this, Tegernsee is already dealing with digital parking lot surveillance.

After a preliminary consultation in the building and traffic committee, the city council was unanimous on Tuesday evening in favor of testing the system of the provider "Parkdepot" on the Point.

License plate surveillance by video camera

"No controllers, no parking discs, no barriers.

All you need is a license plate scanner," is how the Munich start-up advertises its system, which the company has already presented in the town hall.

Multi-storey car parks and parking areas are monitored via video camera, the numbers of cars entering and exiting are recorded and billed in a "data-secure" manner.

"This means that the parking lot no longer has to be monitored by the staff of the special-purpose association, which is very time-consuming, especially in summer when bathing is open," explained Bettina Koch, head of the building authority.

Monitoring can then be limited to adhering to the rescue routes.

Test for modern parking space management

It was still less about details and about how parking lot users actually pay their fee.

The system also has to be discussed with the Oberland municipal association, which is to take over the provider's data in order to continue tracking unpaid parking transactions.

It was a fundamental decision that Mayor Johannes Hagn (CSU) was clearly campaigning for.

Hagn believes it is important to take steps towards modern parking space management.

Above all, if the system proves its worth, it could also be used at other locations in the area.

“Roughly at the hiking car parks,” said Hagn, who also intends to combine the system with information options on the main road.

Because if a hiking car park, for example on the Neureuth or on the Sonnleitenweg, is occupied,

then the drivers should be informed in advance and the annoying "search traffic" should be a thing of the past.

"The processing of the parking and the administrative effort will be more efficient," Hagn answered when asked by Carolin Machl (CSU) about the benefits of the system.

There are already experiences

Andreas Feichtner (CSU) and parliamentary colleague Günther Allerstorfer liked the system.

But the latter believed that it would only be accepted if it worked.

Koch reported that the company had offered an escort.

With regard to the references that the members of the transport committee had asked about, Koch referred to the experiences of a shopping center in Kaufbeuren, for example.

The system is also in use at a fast food restaurant on the Irschenberg.

In any case, it would not be a pilot project at the Point, because other municipalities are now also testing this type of parking space surveillance - for example Rottach-Egern or Bad Wiessee, there with other providers.

At the Wallberg car park, digital recording was already introduced in February, but problems with it were mentioned in the building committee.

In the Rewe underground car park in Gmund, the property management company there has introduced a digital recording system to deal with the problem of long-term parkers.

For Ursula Janssen (Greens), the test introduction would make perfect sense.

"However, a good network is also necessary," she said with regard to payment options via mobile phone app.

It was precisely in this area that Gritsch saw a need to catch up in Tegernsee.

Date of introduction still open

In the end, the test operation was decided unanimously.

In fact, it will probably not be introduced that quickly.

First, the working group should present its plans for the Point.

And that doesn't just include the parking lot, which is to be redesigned as the final step.

It's also about the sports facilities and the beach.

AK spokesman Rudolf Gritsch aims to present concepts to the city council in winter and then tackle the first implementations.
