Against the backdrop of the ongoing protests in the Islamic Republic, the US is targeting senior Iranian officials:
the US Treasury Department has blacklisted seven Iranian citizens, including Interior Minister Ahmed Vehidi, Communications Minister Issa Zarfur and Hossein Najat, former number two in the intelligence unit of the Revolutionary Guards.
The US announced this evening (Thursday) the move that includes four senior officials in the various branches of law enforcement, including the police's cyber unit, which is responsible, among other things, for restricting access to Internet service in Iran.

This is another response from Washington in light of the protests against the regime that began on September 17 following the death of the 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who became a symbol after she was arrested by the modesty guards because she did not cover her upper body with the traditional hijab.
She died two days later as a result of internal bleeding, a direct consequence of the beatings she received.
The meaning of the new sanctions is the freezing of the assets of the marked on US soil as well as the prohibition of trade by American citizens with those appearing on the updated list.

"The United States condemns the Iranian government's internet shutdown and violent suppression of peaceful protest, and we will not hesitate to target those who direct and support such actions," said Brian Nelson, Treasury's Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence in an official statement.
Earlier it was learned that the European Union is also considering imposing new sanctions on Iran in light of the protests in the country, as the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the Union, Joseph Borrell, said during a meeting of foreign ministers in Prague.
