The ICAC investigation revealed that a total of 36 applicants were suspected of being given preferential treatment, and the selection interview scores of some applicants were suspected to be raised.

The ICAC stated that the eight defendants, aged between 59 and 64, were the Acting Chief Hawker Control Officer Law Sai-wah, and the seven Chief Hawker Control Officers Li Dak-chiu, Tai Cheuk-fai, Yi Kam Tim, Mak Wai-chung, Deng Wing-ping, Wong Wai-hung and Chen Kongsong.

The eight were jointly charged with one count of conspiracy to misconduct in public office, contrary to common law and section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail and will appear in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts next Monday (10th).

The case refers to the "2019 Assistant Hawker Control Officer Recruitment" held by the FEHD in February 2019, and over 5,000 job applications were received.

Among them, about 2,100 candidates were arranged for selection interviews in July and August 2019.
