Dozens of terrorists and criminals have become a group that terrorizes the entire region. They do not have an organized headquarters, but they carry out attacks, rob banks and even shoot Palestinians. In between, they hide in the Kasbah of Nablus and incite the Palestinian street. Will the requested arrest on Yom Kippur help in the hunt for the "lion's den"?

Exchange of fire between IDF forces and Palestinian militants in Deir al-Khatb (social networks)

At the beginning of 2022, a rumor began to spread in the city of Nablus about a terrorist cell known as the "Lion's Den", which is responsible for shooting attacks.

According to the rumors, the squad consists of former terrorist operatives and local criminals who hide most of the day in the Kasbah of Nablus.

Among other things, the squad has the support of the father of the terrorist who carried out the attack in Tel Aviv.

"Do not kill the lions of your country lest the dogs of your enemy eat you," the father wrote on Facebook.

In February, the Shin Bet managed to locate three members of the squad in the heart of the city of Nablus, and eliminate them. The terrorists who were eliminated were Adham al-Shishani, Muhammad Abu al-Raad, and Ashraf al-Mabasalt. The fourth member of the squad, 18-year-old Ibrahim Nabulsi, who was defined last on the hierarchy list In the squad, he managed to escape and was not captured. In the months that passed, he became a star on Palestinian social networks and threatened that the "Lion's Den" squad would harm IDF soldiers when they entered Nablus.

Nabulsi managed to drag other young men after him and went out with them to carry out shooting attacks against Israeli vehicles and IDF soldiers in the area. For his operations, Nabulsi received standard weapons and ammunition, which according to the claims came from arms smuggling financed by Hamas and Iran. After several months of hunting, Nabulsi was located last August and eliminated.

However, the terrorist cell did not disappear from the map, videos of Navolsi's last moments were distributed on social networks and brought more young people to join the "Lion's Den". The new leader of the cell is Mahmoud al Bana, who also stars on the networks. The cell took responsibility for several shooting attacks against IDF positions and Israeli vehicles in recent weeks.

Yesterday there was a turning point in the hunt for the members of the squad, after the Shin Bet managed to uncover the hiding place of one of its members, Salman Imran, 35 years old, a resident of the village of Deir al-Hatab, who was wanted for involvement in the shooting attack earlier this week. They surrounded the building where he was hiding, and after three hours of fighting, during which his family members left the building, Imran was handed over by his uncle. In the exchange of fire, another terrorist was killed, and the wanted man's brother was wounded

. and in the refugee camp in Nablus.

In the past some of them were identified with the Islamic Jihad, Hamas and the Popular Front until they decided one day to take responsibility for Nablus.

This is another example of the governance problems of the Palestinian security mechanisms that have lost control there."

As a result of the work, the terrorists do not have an organized headquarters, and the decisions are made spontaneously, their capture is a challenge for the security forces.

"They are criminals for everything. They shoot whoever they want even within the Palestinian population. They break into, steal and rob banks, and among other things carry out shooting attacks," said a military official.

According to estimates in the security establishment, Imran's arrest will greatly assist in the hunt for the other members of the squad in Nablus.

Just this week, the head of the operations department at the General Staff, Major General Oded Basiuk, said in an implicit message to the members of "Gov Aryot", who think that the refugee camps will serve as a shelter for them: "There are no cities of refuge in Judea and Samaria - we will go wherever necessary and do what is necessary and what is right to do."
