Around 1,400 visitors came to the job and training fair in the municipal gym at the family pool construction site on Tuesday and Wednesday.

More than 90 exhibitors from Penzberg and the region presented a wide range of industries and professions over the two days.

There could be another trade fair in 2023.

Penzberg – The job and training fair in Penzberg, organized by Katharina Panholzer, Nicola Schackmann and Sabine Ostermann from the company “Neuorientation 0812” with the support of the city, was bigger this year than in previous years.

So this time it lasted two days - on Tuesday evening the job fair, which was open to adults and young people, and on Wednesday the training fair, for which 800 students from five schools were registered.

At over 90, the number of exhibitors was also higher than last time.

In addition, the organizers, who once started in the city library and moved to the city hall last year, used the significantly larger gym at the family pool construction site this year.

The variety of potential employers was correspondingly greater:

The fair is well received by young visitors

That went down well with the young visitors.

"I think the fair is great," said Anastasia (16).

She hopes she finds something that suits her.

The trade fair is a good basis for this.

Emilia (16), who is interested in biology, saw the exhibition as a good opportunity to find inspiration and socialize.

It's interesting to see how many jobs there are, confirmed Lea (15).

He was "open to everything," said Jonas (14).

Although he discovered something at the fair that you don't immediately think of: customs.

Companies suffer: lack of skilled workers and trainees

It is difficult for companies to find people these days, Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) said at the opening.

There is a shortage of skilled workers and there are not enough trainees.

This was confirmed when asked by several companies, including the Penzberger carpentry in Lenk.

In the past 31 years, 53 apprentices have been trained, said Hardi Lenk.

This year, for the first time, not a single one started.

It's more difficult than it used to be, confirmed Eva-Maria Ludwig from "Xylem Analytics" in Weilheim.

This is particularly noticeable in manual trades, because many young people do not know that they can continue to develop after their training, for example via a dual study program.

It has become more difficult to fill vacancies

However, there is not only a shortage of trainees, there is also a demand for skilled workers in many sectors.

According to Stefan Berger from the "Starnberger Kliniken", to which the Penzberg hospital belongs, new employees are mainly being sought in the field of nursing.

What complicates the situation is the housing market.

There is a lack of affordable housing.

Store manager Stefan Hartmann from Hagebaumarkt also reported that it has become more difficult.

For training and vacancies, you used to have three to six applications, now one or two, he says.

Fortunately, there were a few applicants at the fair last year.

But even if that should not be the case this year: According to him, it is important to be present at such an exhibition in order to be remembered, something that other exhibitors also confirm.

This applies, for example, to "winning blw", which is moving to the former MAN site in Penzberg.

This year there is no training, but after the move, the intention is to set up training again for 2023, said relocation project manager Frank Zerling.

Organizers take positive stock - 2023 like "in a similar format"

In the end, the organizers were very satisfied.

The job fair on Tuesday went extremely well with around 600 visitors, summed up Katharina Panholzer.

The feedback from visitors and exhibitors was positive.

"It's buzzing and humming, it's totally beautiful," said Nicola Schackmann happily on Wednesday shortly before the end of the training fair, which, like the day before, featured lectures and speed dating.

All of the approximately 800 registered students came.

The next job and training fair may be in 2023.

"We intend to do that again," says Nicola Schackmann, "and we'd be happy to do it in a similar format."
