A German vacationer is missing in the Watzmann area, shortly afterwards rescue workers find a body.

The dead man fell about 200 meters in altitude.

Berchtesgarden – On Tuesday afternoon, October 4th, the body of a mountaineer was found in the Watzmann area.

As reported by the police, the accident happened in the area of ​​​​the southeast crash of the Mooslahnerkopf, or the small Watzmann.

The Watzmann is a popular place for hikers in Bavaria.

Watzmann accident: German vacationers have been unreachable for four days

A 60-year-old vacationer from the Lake Constance district was reported missing to the Berchtesgaden police station early Tuesday morning.

As the police announced, the man wanted to go on a mountain tour in the Grünstein area or the small Watzmann last Friday, September 30th.

Relatives have not been able to reach the hiker since Friday.

The vacationer's parked vehicle was found in Schönau as part of the search for missing persons.

Rescue workers from the Berchtesgaden mountain rescue service and the Alpine task force focused their search on the area of ​​the mountain tour that the 60-year-old had planned.

Body recovered: Hiker fell about 200 meters

Finally, on Tuesday afternoon, around 1:10 p.m., a dead person was found at an altitude of 1,700 meters in the area of ​​the southeastern crash of the Mooslahnerkopf and the small Watzmann.

A police helicopter located and recovered the body.

The dead man had previously fallen to his death around 150 to 200 meters in altitude.

For this reason, it has not yet been possible to determine with certainty whether the dead person is the missing 60-year-old.

The investigations into the exact course of the accident and the identity of the person are ongoing - they were taken over by an officer from the Alpine Task Force at the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters under the direction of the Traunstein public prosecutor's office.

The Watzmann is always underestimated, says a spokesman for the Ramsau mountain rescue service - more than 100 people have already lost their lives on Berchtesgaden's destiny mountain.
