The tree is part of the townscape in Dorfen like the church tower.

However, the ash tree is sick and its future is uncertain.

The municipality is now investing 4,000 euros for the rescue.

Icking – The ash tree at the clubhouse in Dorfen is as much a part of the townscape as the church or the maypole.

"As an old Dorfenerin, I would miss the tree a lot," said Ursula Loth (PWG) at the most recent meeting of the municipal council.

But: The ash weakens, even if it is not affected by the ash dieback.

The panel decided not to part with the old tree anyway.

It will be renovated again.

To protect the townscape of Dorfen: the municipal council decides - the tree is saved

This means: There is a "crown shortening".

It is also important to get the large amount of dead wood out of the tree, because otherwise road safety can no longer be guaranteed.

A replacement planting in the area would be “not possible”, the administration had explained.

Ultimately, the decision was made to take care of the ash and still plant new trees - so that local councils can also talk about trees that are getting on in years in 30 years.

Rescuing Old Ash: Tree Care With High Costs and Uncertain Future

Georg Linsinger (UBI) was the only one on the committee who thought aloud about saying goodbye to the ash tree.

"The care measures cost a lot of money, which we invest in a project that no longer exists for years." However, the majority of the municipal council wants to put another 3,500 to 4,000 euros into saving the tree.
