These new incidents were reported by the SNAI a few hours after a day of clashes between organized crime gangs in the Latacunga prison, which left 16 dead and more than 40 injured.

According to government authorities, these violent incidents are due to the struggle between criminal gangs linked to drug trafficking that seek to increase their power and control inside Ecuadorian prisons.
