The corona patients in the Freising Clinic have increased by leaps and bounds.

In the tense situation, there is additional work for the staff.

– In the Freising Clinic, the number of patients infected with Corona has skyrocketed – from around ten in mid-September to 20 last week and now 33 (as of Tuesday).

Even at the peak of the pandemic, so many infected patients were rarely in the hospital.

This means significantly more effort for the staff: After each contact with infected people, clothing has to be changed.

No less problematic is the high sickness rate among staff, which often "mixes up the shift schedules," as hospital spokesman Sascha Alexander reports.

And in the already tense situation, the additional bureaucratic effort is annoying.

Corona situation in the clinic: Patient numbers are now reported daily

Beginning in October, every new employee in a hospital or senior citizen center must be vaccinated at least three times - requiring administrative verification of vaccination status.

In addition, the clinics now have to enter the number of patients and the occupancy figures of the clinic on a daily basis via the Demis reporting system (German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Protection).

“That means an enormous amount of additional work for the doctors,” informs Alexander.

"The bureaucracy is really taking on new dimensions here." In addition, one must continue to use the DIVI intensive care register, which records the free and occupied treatment capacities in intensive care medicine in around 1,300 acute hospitals in Germany (including Freising) on ​​a daily basis.

Corona: Effort also increases when testing - new vaccination campaign is just starting

The effort involved in testing is also increasing: according to the new Infection Protection Act, the clinic employees now have to undergo a quick test three times a week (previously twice).

A visit to the hospital is also only possible with a negative rapid test.

At the same time, vaccination with the vaccine adapted to the modified omicron virus begins at the hospital: "We encourage all employees to take part here," reports Alexander.

"For some, this means the fifth vaccination." It is still unclear whether the FFP2 mask requirement will also apply to all hospital and home employees from October.

We are still waiting for clarifying information from the ministry.

Parallel to the seven-day incidence, the number of patients infected with corona has increased.

According to Alexander, for data protection reasons, it is not disclosed whether the 33 patients who have come to the clinic with or because of Corona.

The press spokesman's assessment, however, is that the corona infection was, for most of them, an incidental finding of the rapid test that was mandatory on admission.

The good news: The intensive care unit is and has rarely been occupied by Covid patients for a long time.

There has also not been a separate corona isolation ward for a few months.

In order to better distribute the increased nursing effort, the infected patients are left on the individual wards, where they actually belong," says Alexander.

That has worked well so far.

With more than 20 patients now, however, it is becoming more difficult: "We are still trying to stick to the concept," said the spokesman.

Corona incidence: Freisinger Volksfest leads to “major infection problem”

As reported, the Freisinger Volksfest also led to a "major infection problem" on the part of the clinic staff.

The Munich Oktoberfest, which can be reached from Freising within a very short time, should also play a role here.

The situation remains tense, reports Alexander.

In terms of personnel, “everything is very, very tight”.

The motto, according to the clinic spokesman, is now: "Pay attention to hygiene and stay reasonable." Despite the currently very high number of patients in Freising, no operations have to be postponed at the moment.
