Members of the V-Party³ have no less than an Oktoberfest revolution in mind.
In an open letter to Munich's mayor, the signatories promote their mission.
Munich – Was it the last Oktoberfest with chicken and pork knuckles?
Rather not.
If the V-Party³ has its way, yes.
In an open letter to Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter, the "Party for Change, Vegetarians and Vegans" calls for a completely vegan Wiesn 2023.
Wiesn should be completely vegan: Open letter to Munich Mayor
"As decision-makers in the city, you now have the opportunity to demonstrate supra-regional responsibility with the possibilities of a municipality at the next Wiesn," says the letter addressed to the SPD politician.
In 2022, completely vegan dishes were on the menu in numerous festival tents for the first time, and the Ochsenbraterei even hired a chef who is particularly renowned in this field.
Not enough for the V-Party³.
In her open letter, she refers to the clearing practiced in the Amazon to gain cultivation area for soybeans.
The crushed plant ends up in the feeding troughs of pigs, turkeys and chickens.
Europe is one of the largest buyers of feed for factory farming.
"Every roast chicken at the Oktoberfest fuels this fire," conclude the signatories.
Oktoberfest 2023 completely redefined in culinary terms?
The vegan Weißwurst celebrated its premiere “with great success” during the last Wiesn, write the state chairmen of the V-Party³ Constanze Beck and Angelika Selbmann as well as state managing director Roland Wegner.
They also propose to Mayor Reiter a list of vegan dishes that could be served at Oktoberfest in 2023, including:
Spaghetti with vegan Bolognese
vegan burger with fries
breaded cashew bert with potato salad
Tempeh roulades with vegan spaetzle
vegan Bosna with country potatoes and coleslaw
The open letter to Reiter is sent with the request "to redefine the 'Purity Law', so to speak, from the next Oktoberfest".
The signatories demand that their SPD colleague should “proceed boldly and innovatively” – probably in the knowledge that their wish will not come true any time soon.
"Organic food, regional products, vegetarian and vegan specialties are in increasing demand," says the official Oktoberfest website of the city of Munich.
But also in 2022: “Classics such as sausages were particularly popular.”
