Denmark's Queen Margrethe (82) revokes the title of prince from her son and four grandchildren.

The monarch's drastic step caused sharp words in the family.

Now there is an opinion.

Copenhagen – The news from the Danish royal family on September 28, 2022 made waves.

Queen Margrethe II revokes the titles of "prince" and "princess" from the family of her second-born son Joachim from January 1, 2023.

Joachim (53) and his wife Marie (46) will instead bear the title "Count and Countess of Monpezat".

The official statement also states that Joachim's four children - their grandchildren - will also be deprived of the "Prince and Princess" title.

It hits Prince Nikolai (23), Prince Felix (20), Princess Athena (10), Prince Henrik (13).

From January they will only bear the title of "Excellencies" and no longer "Royal Highnesses".

Prince Joachim vented his anger shortly after the bang.

"I was informed five days in advance," Prince Joachim fumed in the Copenhagen tabloid

His children would be stripped of their identities.

"I am very, very sad when I see them sad and not understanding what is happening over their heads," added the 53-year-old, who openly asked, "Why should they be punished like this?"

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark sticks to her decision

Margrethe II apologizes for her decision, but sticks to it.

Now that he has been on the throne for 50 years, it is natural to look both back and forward.

"It is my duty and my desire as Queen to ensure that the monarchy continues to be contemporary." This sometimes requires difficult decisions to be made and it will always be difficult to find the right moment.

Everything stays the same for Crown Prince Frederik's children.

The four children of Queen Margrethe II's eldest son will keep their titles - for now.
