The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the United States is seeking to remove Russia from the European energy market.

The director of the third European department of the ministry, Oleg Tyapkin, said in an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti Agency: All the loud statements about the readiness to stop importing Russian gas by the end of 2023, including the boasting made by Chancellor Olaf Scholz regarding Germany's ability to live currently without Russian gas and a statement The Minister of Economy and Climate, Robert Habeck, is of great importance. This confirms the undisputed adherence of the political elite in Germany to the anti-Russian American directives.

“This is fully in line with the task set by Washington regarding the exclusion of Russia from the European energy market,” Tyapkin added, noting that Berlin had taken measures in this direction even during the work of the government of Angela Merkel.

On the other hand, Tyapkin expressed his country's appreciation for Austria's offer to mediate in the Ukrainian crisis, stressing at the same time that such efforts are meaningless.

In response to a question about whether Moscow considers Austria a neutral country that can represent Ukraine’s interests in Russia, and the possibility of possible Austrian mediation, Tyapkin said: “Austria has supported all sanctions measures against Russia, and contributed to the organized campaign to expel Russian diplomats, so its neutrality is eroding, Against this background, any talk of honest mediation services loses its meaning.”
