Martin Bachhuber from Bad Heilbrunn has been a member of the state parliament since 2008.

In 2023 he will end his almost 40-year political commitment - but not quite.

Bad Heilbrunn – No, says member of the state parliament Martin Bachhuber (CSU), he didn't make the decision lightly, he thought about it for a long time.

"But I think it's the right time to stop." The Heilbrunner will no longer run in the state elections in autumn 2023.

Bachhuber has been politically active for almost four decades

The soon to be 67-year-old has been active in politics for almost four decades.

After completing his training as an administrator at the municipality of Bad Heilbrunn, Bachhuber worked there for more than ten years as treasurer and registrar before he was elected mayor in 1984.

Bachhuber, who also sat on the district council from 1990 to 2008, held this office for a total of 24 years.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.

In 2008 he applied to succeed District Administrator Manfred Nagler (CSU), but was narrowly defeated by Josef Niedermaier (Free Voters) in the runoff.

In the same year he moved into the state parliament for the constituency of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen/Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the first time.

In all subsequent elections he confidently secured the direct mandate.

"I was able to celebrate successes, but also experienced some disappointments"

The almost 40 years in politics "have given me an awful lot and been a lot of fun," says Bachhuber.

“In all these offices entrusted to me by the voters, I have had countless experiences, been able to celebrate successes, but also had to experience a few disappointments.

I am very grateful for these vicissitudes.”

Who will be candidate now?

Bachhuber doesn't want to speculate

In terms of health, there were a few setbacks to cope with.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and suffered a heart attack while hiking in the mountains in 2015.

"But today I'm fine," emphasizes Bachhuber.

For him, the time is now ripe “for political rejuvenation and renewal”, so he is making room “for the next generation”.

Heilbrunner does not comment on who will run for office.

"I don't want to speculate.

The CSU has to decide that.”
