With a broken voice, between tears, Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of Economy of Mexico, has announced her resignation from the position in the morning conference at the National Palace.

“I had to play in the big leagues and one must know when to retire, I go to the club where I will follow the team with encouragement,” said Clouthier when announcing to the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, her departure from the secretariat of Economy.

“We respect her decision, we insist that she stay, but she is a woman with convictions,” the Mexican president said this morning.

Clouthier (Sinaloa, 1964), also known as "Aunt Tatis", a nickname that became popular on social networks after directing President López's winning electoral campaign in 2018.

His resignation comes amid consultations between the governments of the United States and Mexico on the nation's energy policy after completing the minimum period of time required for talks under their trade agreement (TMEC) instead of requesting a arbitration immediately.

Mexico, the United States and Canada decided to continue consultations to determine whether or not to establish a dispute settlement panel in the TMEC energy case.

The Sinaloan politician, daughter of the former candidate for the presidency of Mexico for the right-wing party, National Action in 1988, took over the Ministry of Economy in January 2021 to face the country's economic challenges, replacing Graciela Márquez Colín, current president of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Her appointment as campaign director for the presidential candidate in 2018, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a representative of the political left, surprised her family of PAN tradition.
