At least 19 members of a group of mountaineers were killed by an avalanche on the Indian side of the Himalayas three days ago, while 10 others are still missing.

Indian authorities said the group included 34 students from the local Nehru Mountaineering Institute, as well as seven coaches and a nurse.

"19 bodies have been found and 10 people are still missing after bad weather conditions hampered the search, which will remain subject to weather conditions," said Redim Agrawal of the National Disaster Management Agency in Uttarakhand.

The avalanche occurred near the summit of Drupadi Ka Danda 2 at an altitude of 4,880 meters in the state of Uttarakhand.
