If you eat vegetarian or plant-based food, it is not always easy to find suitable alternatives to meat dishes in the restaurant, depending on the holiday destination.
Because while in Germany the proportion of vegetarians and vegans in the population is quite high in European comparison and is constantly growing, the situation in other countries is very different.
Nevertheless, you don't have to despair: Asian cuisine in particular is known for sometimes being able to do without meat.
And the trend is also picking up speed in Europe.
We have put together a selection of travel countries where vegetarians and vegans get their money's worth.
India
India is a real paradise for all followers of the meatless diet.
With a share of 29 percent of the population, vegetarians tend to be the norm here, while the meat supply per person is comparatively low.
That's why India ranks first in the Vegan Travel Index published by the renowned travel blog Asher & Lyric.
Many of the most famous Indian dishes, such as curries, curd or naan bread, are vegetarian.
However, vegans have to be a little more careful because Indian cuisine is very dairy-heavy.
Israel
Israel is the perfect travel destination for people on a vegan diet.

In the metropolis of Tel Aviv there are hundreds of vegan restaurants offering a variety of dishes.
The most popular vegan dishes in Israel include falafel, hummus and couscous.

Great Britain
However, vegetarians and vegans do not have to travel long distances to have a diverse selection of dishes on holiday.
The diet trend is also growing rapidly in Great Britain.

Italy

Vegetarians can look forward to ricotta and spinach cannelloni, melanzane alla parmigiana or tiramisu, while fans of the plant-based diet can choose from spaghetti Napoli, foccacia or risotto, among other things.
