After disappointment in 2021: Seegeister Gmund start a new attempt for carnival in the valley

The dancers of the Gmunder Seegeister want to be back on stage this carnival season.

The Seegeister Gmund 2021 had to cancel their carnival at the last minute.

The reason: Corona.

This year it should finally work.

But caution remains.

– The sea spirits from Gmund were already in the starting blocks in autumn 2021 when the big setback came: Because of the increasing incidences, they had to cancel the planned start of the carnival at literally the last minute.

"Ten days before we were supposed to start, the plug was pulled," recalls President Florian Gradl of the disappointment.

This year, the Seegeister – the only carnival club in the Tegernsee Valley – are making a new attempt: the traditional enthronement of the royal couples is planned for Friday, November 11th, as usual at the Oberstöger, and the storming of the town hall for the day after.

So the dates are set.

Nevertheless, after the bitter experience of the past year, Gradl has become cautious with any forecasts.

"We hope that Corona won't put a spanner in the works for us again," he says.

All four of the club's guards and the two royal couples have long since resumed their training and are standing by their guns.

Gradl wishes that the dancers would be spared another cancellation.

The anticipation is great for everyone involved.

The 2021 program is to be performed this year

The program, which the Seegeists had to put on hold completely last season, is now to be performed this year.

The motto remains secret until the evening of the enthronement.

After a year of waiting, the little and the big princely couple should finally be used.

The names of the highnesses, says the president, remained under wraps despite the long time.

"Nothing ever got out."

In addition to the prince, youth and children's guards, the sea spirits now even have a dwarf guard in which the littlest sea spirits practice together with their trainers for the big performance.

The president explains that the details of the stage program are still being worked on at the moment.

The active dancers only resumed their regular training after Easter, when the pandemic allowed it.

"We run a contact sport," emphasizes Gradl.

"Dancing at a distance is just not possible."

If the start of carnival in November can take place as planned, it would be the end of a long dry spell: In February 2020, the fools at Tegernsee celebrated extensively for the last time when the Seegeister organized their carnival procession in Gmund.

Shortly thereafter, the first lockdown brought everything to a standstill.

Carnival procession should also take place

This year the carnival is supposed to revive again.

In addition to the Seegeister events, there will probably also be a carnival procession at Tegernsee in the 2022/2023 season.

The carnival procession in Kreuth, which was canceled last year due to corona, will probably be made up for on February 19, 2023.

"That is the target date," confirms Florian Oberlechner from the event committee.

Oberlechner announced that they would soon be meeting with the representatives of the community to fix the date and discuss further details.

And jokes: "We waited so long because we didn't know if our mayor would be re-elected."
