Since September 19, infections with the corona virus in the Munich district have increased significantly.
The Oktoberfest in Munich opened two days earlier.
District
– However, the district office does not confirm whether the Wiesn is the reason for the spread of the virus.
A few days after the opening of the largest folk festival in the world, the number of new infections had increased almost daily.
While the number was still 140 on September 16, ten days later there were already over 700 new infections.
On September 28, the authority even recorded over 900 new cases.
No increasing death toll
To what extent the infections can be traced back to the Oktoberfest “cannot be conclusively assessed”, the district office said on request.
It is also not possible to draw conclusions about lower temperatures as the cause of the increase.
At least “there are no abnormalities in the number of deaths,” according to the district administration.
The last death known to the district office in connection with the virus was before the Wiesn.
No increased willingness to vaccinate
The citizens of the district do not show an increased willingness to vaccinate: “Before the Oktoberfest there was no increased demand for vaccination.
A slight increase in the number of vaccinations was recorded from the beginning of the Oktoberfest," according to the district administration.
The reason for the increase: the new, variant-adapted vaccine BA1.
