A climber had a fatal accident in the Bavarian Alps on Friday afternoon.

He stumbled despite good equipment, experience and the best weather.

Lenggries – As the Penzberg police reported late Friday evening, a fatal mountain accident occurred in the Lenggries municipality.

According to this, a 62-year-old from Gräfelfinger and a 63-year-old from Olchinger were out and about together in the Vorderriss area on Friday afternoon.

They successfully climbed the 1806 meter high Gallows Pole Head.

After a short rest at the summit in the best weather, the two mountaineers started their descent again.

The accident happened shortly afterwards.

On an unsecured, narrow hiking trail, Gräfelfinger stumbled and fell about 200 meters over steep terrain, first overgrown with pines and then interspersed with grass.

The crash happened around 2:50 p.m.

A rescue helicopter from Reutte flew to the scene of the accident together with an emergency doctor.

The emergency services were able to rescue the 63-year-old by helicopter.

During the examination in the valley, however, the emergency doctor could only determine death.

According to the police, the person who crashed had experienced mountaineering and was wearing clothing appropriate to the tour.

In addition to the police and emergency doctor, the Lenggries mountain rescue service was also on duty.
