Despite fears about energy supply and high inflation, France will continue to create jobs in 2022. According to the latest INSEE economic report, employment (salaried and self-employed) should increase by 305 000 jobs in 2022, after the strong catch-up in 2021 (+971,000 salaried jobs).
By way of comparison, in 2019, in the pre-crisis period, France recorded 405,000 net job creations in the private sector.
The result for 2022 is still driven by the creation of salaried jobs.
In H2, salaried employment should continue to grow, but less sharply than in H1.
187,000 jobs were created between January and June 2022, and INSEE expects the creation of 58,000 salaried jobs for the second part of the year.
It should be noted that, according to the Institute, about a third of the jobs created result from the dynamics of work-study contracts, particularly in apprenticeships.
"
In the second half of the year, the increase in work-study contracts should remain sustained while the other types of job creation should slow down markedly, in line with activity
", describes INSEE.
Job creation should mainly be concentrated in the commercial tertiary sector.

But this employment dynamic is accompanied by a difficulty for business leaders to recruit.
In July 2022, the share of companies that said they had difficulty recruiting reached "
unprecedented levels in the manufacturing industry (67% of the companies concerned) and services (60%) and reached their highest levels in the construction (82%)
”, details INSEE, which is counting on an unemployment rate which should stand at 7.4% of the active population this year.
