The corona drug Paxlovid is on the market and is intended to prevent severe corona courses.
Now there is also a corona nasal spray that promises to protect others from infection.
Munich – The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported increasing numbers of corona infections.
The 7-day incidence as of Thursday (October 6) was 462.4 and an autumn wave may be rolling our way.
The Covid-19 vaccination protects against a severe course, but cannot prevent infection.
But this is apparently a new nasal spray - the anti-corona nasal spray "vir X".
The nasal spray was developed in Israel and Canada and, according to the manufacturer, is intended to deactivate viruses.
A medical expert assessed the effect of the spray.
Corona virus: nasal spray should protect against infection
The anti-corona nasal spray from the manufacturer "Viro Med" is to be delivered from mid-October - and it promises a lot.
According to the manufacturer, the nasal spray should reduce the infection time of a person suffering from Covid-19 from eight to four days.
The viral load is said to be reduced by about 94 percent within 24 hours of treatment.
After 48 hours, the viral load is said to have decreased by 99 percent.
Cost point: almost 25 euros.

Unlike the corona drug Paxlovid, the nasal spray is intended for prevention and to protect others from infection with the corona virus.
The nasal spray should contain molecules that can break down the corona viruses.
The spray acts as a blocker and should ensure that no viruses can get out of the nose through this blockage, as the product developer Uwe Herbandt explained in an interview with
RTL
.
The blockage occurs because the nasal spray destroys the part of the virus that is used to dock onto the cell.
Anti-corona nasal spray: experts are skeptical
"It does reduce the number of viruses in the nasal cavity, where it is used.
But that doesn't mean it can do anything therapeutic.
Once the viruses have penetrated the cells and caused an infection, the nasal spray cannot do anything," explained medical expert Dr.
Christoph Specht the TV station.
According to the manufacturer, studies have shown the effectiveness of the spray.
It could also help infected people reconnect with people more quickly.
Because the investigations showed that the PCR test of an infected person became negative more quickly.
The spray destroys the virus in the nasal cavity - where the spray is used and the test is taken.
However, if you are infected, the nasal spray will not heal you any faster.
Because the viruses are not only in the nose.
Coronavirus: Anti-corona nasal spray effective in combination with mouthwash
The medical expert is still skeptical about the nasal spray.
Nevertheless, in combination with a mouth and throat rinse, it could reduce the viral load in the mouth, nose and throat.
There have been findings on this for over two years, as Specht explained.
The nasal spray, together with the mouthwash, could actually reduce the risk of infection from non-infected people - but if both are used regularly.

In addition to the nasal spray against corona, researchers are also working on a nasal vaccine against the corona virus.
Nasal vaccination could even prevent infection.
Since there would be a high number of antibodies in the nasopharynx and could fight the virus as soon as it entered.
