Jack Daniel's owner treats himself to Diplomatico rum

The American family group Brown-Forman is diversifying in order to be less dependent on its “Tennessee Whiskey”.


The hottest rum of the moment is changing hands.

The American group Brown-Forman, known for its "Tennessee Whiskey" Jack Daniel's (two thirds of its sales in volume) and its bourbon Old Forester, has sealed an agreement with the Spanish group Destilerias Unidas to buy its Venezuelan nugget Diplomatico.

The amount of the operation, which must be completed within three months, has not been communicated.

This is a major strategic operation for Brown-Forman, 80% of whose worldwide turnover (3.9 billion dollars, or 4 billion euros) is made with whisky.

Founded in the late 1980s, Diplomatico is one of the recent success stories in the world of spirits.
