In the opinion of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, Baden-Württemberg must focus even more on other economic sectors in addition to the automotive sector.
"Everyone knows we make vehicles, mechanical engineering, plant construction," said the Green politician during a visit to Los Angeles in the United States.
But: "That's a bit one-sided." Above all, the Southwest must focus more on the medical sector, which is a finding from his trip to the US.
Los Angeles - "We're also getting into the medical field a lot," he said.
Cooperation between medical technology, the medical industry and universities must be strengthened.
Kretschmann also called for more courage to found new companies in Baden-Württemberg.
There is a strong start-up scene in the US, he said.
"We need a new founding spirit," he said.
You shouldn't let yourself be pulled down and fall into depression, you have to accept challenges and break new ground.
"We are a country with many great companies, but you still have to set up new ones - some are disappearing."
Kretschmann is traveling to the USA this week with a delegation of more than 100 people.
There he wants to establish contacts for the southwest in California, among other places.
The focus is on the topics of artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and the future of the healthcare industry.
