Minister of State Florian Herrmann (CSU) visited the Zollinger power plant and was informed by power plant manager Lothar Schreiber about the situation and prospects of the site.

Zolling

- MdL Florian Herrmann quickly came to the conclusion during his visit to the Zolling power plant: "It's good that the generators are running here in Zolling.

Otherwise there is a risk of a cold and dark winter.” The minister was convinced that the energy park was a prime example “of a clever energy mix of coal, gas and biomass – and in the future also hydrogen”.

In fact, the energy park at the Zolling site supplies a total of 320,000 households with electricity and more than 20,000 households in the Freising region with district heating.

According to Herrmann, planning for district heating supply is elementary

Thanks to its black start capability, Zolling is, so to speak, a hull protection for the German power grid - only a few power plants could do that, as Lothar Schreiber made clear during his visit on Wednesday.

"We now need clear framework conditions from the federal government so that energy companies have planning security for the time after coal-fired power generation," emphasized Florian Herrmann after his visit.

The plans in Zolling to build a modern hydrogen-capable thermal power plant, which can produce heat after the expected decommissioning of the coal block in 2025, are elementary for the district heating supply in the greater Freising area.

"I appeal to everyone involved to deal with the impending supply gap emphatically and without ideology."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Power plant manager Lothar Schreiber emphasized: "We are very pleased that Minister of State Herrmann took the time to visit our energy park in Zolling." He was able to show "that we are committed to the secure supply of electricity and heat at this location". .

In the current situation, all available generation capacities are made available in order to make an important contribution to the secure energy supply in Bavaria.

At the same time, Zolling is preparing for the end of coal-fired power generation.

The first step is now the construction of a modern thermal power plant, "with which we can ensure the climate-friendly, safe and affordable district heating supply in the greater Freising area in the future," said Schreiber.

"Our top priority is to implement this project together with the city of Freising and our partner Bayernwerk," the power plant manager explained.

Of course, he is particularly pleased that the Minister of State is now campaigning for this project.
