The Russian Foreign Ministry announced its rejection of the resolution of the United Nations Human Rights Council on the situation of human rights in the Russian Federation, stressing that it will ignore the special mechanism of this Council, and refuse to cooperate with it after it has turned into an instrument of pressure on Russia.

And the website of Russia Today channel quoted the ministry as saying in a comment published on its website: “We firmly reject the decision adopted today and the false accusations contained in it, and we will ignore the mechanism of the Human Rights Council and refuse to cooperate with it,” stressing that the decision is based on consuming accusations about “the persecution of civil society representatives and activists.” Defenders of human rights and minorities in Russia.

The ministry indicated that the concerns contained in the draft do not reflect the real situation, and cannot be a basis for creating the position of the Special Rapporteur of the Human Rights Council for Russia, pointing out that the draft resolution is only an attempt to create another tool to exert pressure on Russia in the field of human rights.

The ministry considered this initiative another attempt to punish Russia for its independent foreign and domestic policy, stressing that Russia will continue to defend its priorities in the Human Rights Council, the most important of which was and still is to promote a constructive international dialogue on the promotion and protection of human rights.

The ministry stressed that the main task of the Human Rights Council is to ensure adherence to universal values ​​and not to the momentary interests of a narrow circle of Western political elites.

Earlier today, the United Nations Human Rights Council, at the initiative of 26 European Union countries, approved a draft resolution on the "situation of human rights in the Russian Federation".
