Good things take a long time, one might think: almost eight years of back and forth comes to an end with the completion of the community center in Widdersberg.

The inauguration will be celebrated in November.

Widdersberg

– There is an end in sight on the construction site for the community center in Widdersberg.

On the first Advent, the three Widdersberg clubs want to celebrate the inauguration in the new hall.

An almost eight-year history of renovation, extension or new construction comes to an end.

"And the practicality will convince even the last doubters," Mayor Christian Schiller is sure of.

Schiller and Gerlinde Wodars from the municipal building department took the time to tour the new house on Dorfstrasse in Widdersberg.

The acoustic ceiling has been installed and the connection for a beamer has been set up.

The painters are supposed to come next week, everything is being prepared for the tilers.

Outside, workers are placing the last stone slabs on the large terrace facing the playground.

Schiller recalls the legendary festivals of the village communities that celebrated there behind the old community center.

The tables were always crooked and wobbled.

"It's over, it's going to be great," he says happily.

Now the whole property can be used again.

And the hall can be opened up to the terrace via the casement windows over the entire width.

As reported, demolition began in July last year after the municipality and the Widdersbergers were able to agree on a new building after more than six years.

In November, the first wall was up when there were new delays.

For some trades no offers had been submitted at all, it had to be tendered a second time.

Quite apart from the delivery problems since the beginning of the Corona epidemic.

1.242 million euros were available for demolition and new construction - there is no question that this construction site was not spared additional costs.

Gerlinde Wodars added them up just yesterday: almost 200,000 euros more.

The Widdersbergers had a lot of say in the coordination of the plans.

Schiller is pleased that they are now getting a functional place to stay.

After the Ignazhof had closed, there was no longer an opportunity for the customs association, bakery association and parish to meet.

The new hall can be used in many ways and is also to be rented out for private celebrations.

The kitchens can be used to serve in the hall and terrace - everything is handicapped accessible.

And the Backhäuslverein gets a bakery and a barn for wood directly opposite the historic Backhäusl from 1868, which was rebuilt in 2002.

When it came to the new building, it wasn't just the people of the Widdersberg who were concerned that it wouldn't fit into the village.

When looking from the street, Mayor Schiller looks satisfied.

The long, flat gable roof fits in, the front of the house facing the street has a louvered walkway that is to be planted, which in turn provides natural shading on this south side.

Quite apart from that, the low-energy house is equipped with the latest technology - with a heat pump and a ventilation system for the hall.

There will be seating for 72 people, there will be seven parking spaces in front of the house on Dorfstraße, one disabled parking space and two spaces will probably be equipped with e-charging stations.

According to Schiller, the decision has not yet been made.

It is already certain that on 16

March the first district meeting in Widdersberg can take place in the new hall - at least that's the plan.

You never know with the parish hall.
