Process for drug trafficking via Encrochat: Defendant remains silent

A 28-year-old has to answer to the Berlin Regional Court for drug trafficking with sales of almost one million euros.
In 18 cases, he is said to have bought and sold drugs by the kilo.
According to investigations, the illegal trade is said to have been carried out via the crypto messenger service Encrochat.
The accused remained silent at the beginning of the trial on Friday.
Berlin – The man is accused of actions between March and June 2020.
According to the indictment, the 28-year-old is said to have traded a total of 83.5 kilograms of cannabis and 19 kilograms of cocaine.
The public prosecutor assumes trading proceeds of 986,000 euros.
The encryption software was initially considered indecipherable and was therefore very popular with criminals.
However, the police in France and the Netherlands managed to crack the software in spring 2020.
Millions of secret data were siphoned off at that time.
This led to numerous arrests across Europe.
Encrochat went out of business.
The accused was arrested in May this year and has been in custody since then.
The process will continue on October 11th.
