The Greek Coast Guard announced that the death toll from the sinking of two boats carrying illegal immigrants off the coast of Greece, on Wednesday and Thursday, reached at least 29 people.
Today, AFP quoted the coast guard as saying that six additional bodies of people who died in the sinking of the two boats were found, bringing the death toll to at least 29 people.
The coast guard indicated that the bodies were recovered near the island of Kythira, to the south of the Peloponnese peninsula, where a dhow carrying 95 migrants stranded on the night of Wednesday last Thursday.
For his part, Greek Migration Minister Notis Mitarakhi warned during the ministerial conference of the Med 5 group, held in Paphos, Cyprus, that the human losses will increase, and will continue if the European Union does not put pressure on the Turkish regime to prevent illegal sailings from this country.
The Med5 group includes the five Mediterranean countries in the front row in terms of receiving migrants: Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Malta and Italy.
