Bad Tölz – Parking in the city of Bad Tölz will be more expensive next year.

Reason: the municipalities will be subject to sales tax on the parking fees they charge.

This means that they would earn 19 percent less if the fees remained the same, or they would have to increase the tariffs to compensate for the loss.

In its most recent meeting, after a long debate, the Tölz city council narrowly voted in favor of a “moderate increase” – incidentally, the first in 20 years.

The motion by Peter von der Wippel (FWG) to postpone the vote was defeated by 12 to 13 votes, and there will not be a free first half hour, as Gabriele Frei (CSU) had demanded.

Parking fees in Bad Tölz become more expensive the closer they are to the city centre

Treasurer Hermann Forster mentioned at the beginning that the city's main concern with the parking fees it has been collecting for years is not revenue, but traffic control.

The fees should also help to prevent long-term parking.

However, out of 3,000 places in the city, 2,000 are free of charge, but it gets more expensive the closer you get to the city centre.

Due to a change in the law in the new year, the municipality will have to pay sales tax of 19 percent on the fees collected (in the case of the city, a total of around one million euros).

This would be missing from the city coffers in the future.

Forster named an amount of 127,000 euros, since only multi-storey car parks, the mobile home parking space and designated areas such as Kolberggarten or Schlossplatz are subject to tax.

No tax has to be added for parking on the curb, but the administration proposes that this will also be more expensive.

Hour in the Tölzer central car park costs 10 cents more per hour

In concrete terms, an hour in the central car park will cost 50 instead of 40 cents (40 euros per month for long-term parkers), in some parking spaces the hour will be increased by ten cents, on the Isarkai, Schlossplatz and Kolberggarten you will have to pay 1.50 euros per hour instead of one euro pay.

Businessman Peter von der Wippel spoke of a location factor, even feared a loss of frequency and accused the chamberlain of misusing this income to reorganize the budget.

He pleaded for the decision to be postponed in order to include business promoters and traders beforehand.

Gabriele Frei pleaded for 30 free minutes, which are common in the Tegernsee valley and towns like Wolfratshausen, Weilheim and Penzberg.

This is support for trade and citizens.

Tini Brandl (CSU), on the other hand, was of the opinion.

"You can live with 1.50 euros per hour." Her parliamentary colleague René Mühlberger (CSU) said that the 800,000 euros in forecast income would be distributed over 770,000 parking tickets: "It's not the fees, whether you drive to Tölz or Not."

Anton Mayer (CSU) is convinced "that we need the income", while his parliamentary colleague Julia Dostthaler said that an increase in fees at the moment cannot be reconciled with the image of a family-friendly city.

Willi Streicher (SDP) and Neustadtrat Toni Kollmeier (Greens) advocated "selling the whole package better", and the main problem for most drivers is not the amount, but "the right small change".

Ulrike Bomhard (FWG) saw a disadvantage for the weaker and seniors, while Josef Steigenberger (CSU) advocated "driving less".

30 minutes free parking in Bad Tölz from the table

Mayor Ingo Mehner, who was one of the supporters of the increase, praised the arguments put forward, but I spoke out against postponing the vote.

He also feared that 30 minutes of free time would result in a significant loss of revenue for the city.

In the vote, 13 councilors voted for the increase proposed by the administration.
