The district group of the human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a contemporary exhibition in the foyer of the Miesbach high school.

To this end, the group led by founding member Fritz Weigl scoured the archive for documents that reflect Miesbach's commitment and its development, analogous to the existence of human rights in a global political context.

Persecution by the Stasi in the former GDR, executions in the People's Republic of China and in US prisons, children's rights in Africa, war crimes in former Yugoslavia, refugee rescues in the Mediterranean, missing students in Mexico, women's rights in India and Iran, and portraits of courageous resisters , who stand up for human rights in countries where human rights are violated, can be found on six partitions – one per decade.

In addition, an additional one for the past ten years, in which the topic of human rights has been more topical than it has been for a long time.

“The internet is hoid warmer.

It's not that bad.” Cabaret artist Christine Eixenberger on the comfortable involvement in online petitions, the dubious “militant” sharing of any internet posts and the digital excitement about human rights violations.

"The fight for human rights is more important than ever before," said Jens Zangenfeind in his speech.

On behalf of District Administrator von Löwis, he thanked the district citizens for their immediate willingness to help in view of the war of aggression in Ukraine.

He praised the commitment of the AI group Miesbach, acknowledged the achievements of Fritz Weigl, the "hotspot of humanity" and promised the support of the district for the further work of AI Miesbach.

"It means standing by each other and being there for each other," said Zangenfeind before the high school's big band, led by Simon Weiß, performed film music from every imaginable superhero film.

Then Christine Eixenberger, cabaret artist and former high school student, made it clear to around 100 guests in her half-hour appearance how easy it is to stand up for human and women's rights in Miesbach - especially in everyday situations, such as discussions with craftsmen and construction financing advisors.

According to the cabaret artist, it is important to proactively inform yourself, to become active and not to hide in the anonymity of the Internet.

The "Guerilla-Gams vom Oberland" donated their performance to the AI group.

The exhibition can be seen in the foyer of the Miesbach Gymnasium until October 29, Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
