Damascus, SANA- The fifth season of the Syrian Plastic Art Days, scheduled to be launched tomorrow, is celebrated at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts

The fifth season of the Syrian Plastic Art Days, scheduled to be launched tomorrow, at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts, celebrates the centenary of the artist, the teacher, Fateh Al-Modarres, under the slogan (Seventy Years of Modernity), a reference to the seventy years since his painting (Kafr Jannah) won the first prize, in the third annual exhibition. 1952, which was considered the beginning of the history of modernity in Syrian plastic art.

The celebration, launched by the Ministry of Culture, includes holding many exhibitions in public and private galleries, academic seminars and professional competitions, including the annual Autumn Exhibition in the Damascus Citadel, the Modernity Exhibition in the People’s Hall, a portrait competition inspired by the works of Fatih al-Modarres in the Damascus Citadel, and a poster design competition in Al-Assad National Library.

Concerning the merits of the celebration this year, the director of the Directorate of Fine Arts, Wassim Abdel Hamid, said in a statement to SANA: “The fifth season of the celebration dedicates a tradition that we have followed in the past two seasons by celebrating two major events, the first of which is the centenary of the artist, the teacher, Fateh al-Modarres, and the other is the seventy years since his painting’s victory. Kafr Jannah won the first prize in the third annual exhibition in 1952.

Abdul Hamid explained that the opening ceremony of the Syrian Fine Art Days at the Opera House will include honoring three great artists, the able sculptor Abdul Salam Qatmiz, Majdi Al-Kuzbari, and Talal Al-Abdullah, and honoring the memory of three late artists, Al-Farid Tamal, one of the founders of the plastic art that dominated his works. Impressionism, and Izz El-Din Hemmat, who is also one of the symbols of the classical school in the contemporary plastic movement, and Abdel Karim Farag, former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, whose works carried a human and aesthetic sense, in a spontaneous manner, and with a chromatic and technical formulation that serves the idea.

And he indicated that the cultural centers in Damascus and the provinces, including in Aleppo, Lattakia and Hasaka, will participate in parallel activities, along with 10 private galleries in Damascus, and one in Aleppo, which will present special exhibitions on the occasion, with two seminars on Syrian plastic art at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University.

Tomorrow's celebration will include the opening of the exhibition of the teacher Fateh Al-Modarres in the lobby of the Opera Hall, and an audio-visual presentation of his tribute to him in the centenary of his birth, with the piece (Fateh Al-Modarres) composed by Maestro Adnan Fathallah, and will be played by the Syrian National Band for Arab Music.
