Weichs – This Sunday, October 9th, it will be 45 years since Weichs experienced a big festival: With great sympathy from the population, the new bells for the church tower of St. Martin Church were installed in 1977 by Ordinariate Councilor Prelate Dr.

Michael Höck inaugurated.

The festive service in the monastery courtyard, which the prelate celebrated with the Weichs pastor Alfons Kuhnigk, was solemnly designed by the church choir and the Langenpettenbach brass band with the Schubert mass.

Kuhnigk would like to thank not only everyone who helped with the preparation and implementation of the Sunday festival, but also the many generous donors who supported the purchase of the new bells.

The ringing cost a total of 80,000 DM.

It was also the priest himself who gave the impetus to replace the four old steel bells from 1949 with new bronze bells that allow for a beautiful, harmonious ringing.

The largest bell, with a total weight of 45 hundredweight, is dedicated to the church patron St. Martin, the second with 25 hundredweight to St. Sebastian, the third with 20 hundredweight to St. Mary and the smallest, the death bell with about 15 hundredweight, to St . Joseph.

On October 16, 1977, the new bells from the Weichs church tower finally rang out for the first time.

And for the first time together with the hour strike.

The parish annals read about the old bells, which date back to 1949: "They come to four poor village churches in Ecuador, where people have to be called to church services with firecrackers".
